On Thursday, Western Michigan University athletics announced that Jim Culhane will be relieved of his duties as head coach of the men’s hockey team.

He will , however, continue to be a part of the university. Culhane will transition from the role of head coach into a role within the fundraising and development programs at WMU.

WMU Athletic Director Kathy Beauregard released the following statement regarding the matter: “After a very diligent evaluation of our hockey program, we have made the decision to move toward a new direction in terms of the leadership of Bronco hockey.”

Culhane will finish out the current season and a national search to find a new head coach for the program will begin shortly, according to the statement.
