Calderone named MAC Player of the Week
Sophomore Michael Calderone was been named MAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week by the Mid-American

(Chyn Wey Lee / Western Herald) Western Michigan’s Michael Calderone stays focused against Xavier’s Chris Herrlinger in the Broncos home match on Sunday. Calderone led WMU with three wins against Michigan and Xavier over the weekend, earning him the Mid-American Conference’s honor of MAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week.

Calderone picked up the honor after winning three matches last weekend, including a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles against No. 16 University of Michigan. He was responsible for the only point the Broncos earned against the Wolverines.
Against Xavier University, Calderone once again picked up a straight-set win in No. 2 doubles, but this time picked up a win in No. 2 doubles as well. The wins meant even more to the Brown and Gold, as they were shorthanded in the match. Only five players played in the match, one short of the six-player requirement. WMU earned the team win, 4-3.
The Grass Lake, Mich. native will travel to Indiana this week with the rest of the Broncos, are they travel South for two matches. First, the Broncos will land in Indiananapolis on Friday to take on Butler University. They will then travel to West Lafayette to face another Big Ten Conference opponent, Purdue University, on Saturday .
