The Western Michigan University baseball team (2-9) lost game one of their three game series at Oral Roberts (3-6) on Friday.

Oral Roberts has been the program with the most wins in the country since 2004 and it showed as they busted out the sticks for the game, downing Western Michigan, 13-2. Four different players hit home runs in the game for the Golden Eagles, who finished with 16 total hits.

The WMU pitching staff struggled as all 13 runs were earned. Tyler Saladino proved to be the Bronco slayer going 3-for-3 with a run and five RBIs.

ORU scored a run in the first inning and three in the second to put the Broncos down 4-0 early in the game. A three-run home run by Oral Roberts in the fourth put the game further out of reach of the struggling Broncos, making the score 7-0.

Junior Brian Stroud (0-3) took the loss for WMU going 4.2 innings giving up eight, and striking out only two. Stroud tied a career high in strikeouts his last outing with nine. Senior John Navage came in relief to stop the bleeding allowing only two runs in 2.1 innings and striking out four.

Freshman Patrick Duncan gave up three runs in the ninth inning to close the game out for the Broncos.

Junior Tim Cross had the only multiple hit game for Western Michigan going 2-for- 4. Sophomore Jamie Simpson remained a hot bat for the Broncos, knocking in both runs in the fifth inning with a two out single scoring the one and two hitters for the Broncos Kyle Galbraith and Grant Simotes.

WMU looks to avenge this loss Saturday at 2 p.m.
