Third-year sophomore tight end Blake Hammond has been named for the 2010 John Mackey Award Watch List.
The award honors the nation’s top tight end. Hammond played in every game last season, in which he also made two starts. In those 12 games played, the red-shirt freshman caught two touchdown passes.
Given annually to the best collegiate tight end, the award winner is selected by a vote of the John Mackey Award selection committee. This year’s winner will be announced Dec. 9, 2010.
Hammond made his college debut in 2009 against the University of Michigan. He made his first career start at Indiana the following week. He scored his first touchdown on his first career reception in last year’s home opener against Miami University of Ohio.
Of the 32 tight ends on the watch list, Hammond is one of only four sophomores. He also has the honor of being the only Mid-American Conference student-athlete to make the list.
