Western Michigan’s Irene Cooper was named MAC Field Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive time on Tuesday after a dominating performance at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday.

Cooper earned first place in the weight throw with a total distance of 63 feet, 9.75 inches, yet again surpassing the NCAA provisional qualifying mark. This is the second straight week that Cooper has taken first in the weight throw, the first having been a dual meet against Toledo on Jan. 10.

On top of taking first in the weight throw, Cooper also landed a second place in the shot put with a total distance of 45 feet, 9.75 inches. Bronco thrower Stephanie Mitchell edged out Cooper taking first, reversing the roles from the previous week.

This is Cooper’s fifth career award, and the fourth during the indoor season.
