The Western Michigan University hockey team is back and ready to take on the remainder of their season with full force.
The majority of the season has been filled with disappointing, one-point losses but this hasn’t got the team down. There is enormous talent that is ready to shine, and the team has put in the work to allow it.
“I think our effort has been pretty good, our discipline has been good but, you know, we’re frustrated and we just have not been scoring,” said Bronco head coach Jim Culhane. “I think what is happening to us right now as a team, and I have said this to the guys, but it’s like we all have this 20 pound weight on our back that we’re all carrying around and you know we need to score because with that, everything else is magnified.”
Coming back from winter break, the team endured a long run of two-a-day practices and tough games against Bemidji State and the University of Michigan. This past week has been a time to reflect, work on special teams and perfect certain aspects of their game.
“Well, you know the biggest thing right now is keeping team moral up, making sure everyone comes to the rink ready to work hard every day and looking forward to the next games because we need these wins,” Senior center Chris Clackson said. “The season isn’t any where near over and we are making sure that the guys know that and they come ready to work hard so we can get a winning streak going.”
The Broncos will be taking on Bowling Green University in Ohio this weekend. The contest on Friday will begin at 7:05 p.m.
