The Western Michigan Broncos currently hold a 6-3 overall record through nine games this season. WMU suffered their first conference loss last week 51-24 against the Toledo Rockets. The Broncos now have a 4-1 record in the Mid-American Conference. With a 6-3 record, WMU is already bowl eligible. Currently, the Broncos sit at second in the MAC West Division behind Northern Illinois, who have not lost a conference game this season.

On Tuesday, Kent State faced Bowling Green in a dismal matchup of 1-7 teams. Both teams entered the contest with an 0-4 record in the MAC. Kent State scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter and went on to win the game 35-28. The other game on Tuesday saw Buffalo (7-1) take on Miami (3-5). A high scoring contest would ultimately lead to a 51-42 Buffalo victory. Buffalo now holds an 8-1 overall record with an undefeated 5-0 record in the MAC.

More MACtion occurred on Wednesday when Toledo squared off against Ball State. These teams entered the game having very average seasons as Toledo held a 4-4 record while Ball State sat at 3-6. Toledo got off to a hot start and never slowed down. The Rockets took care of business winning 45-13 and improved to 5-4 overall.

WMU (6-3) will have a contest with Ohio (5-3) tonight at 7:00 p.m. Ohio is second in the MAC East with a 3-1 conference record while WMU is second in the MAC West with a 4-1 conference record. Northern Illinois (5-3) and Akron (4-3) play in a pivotal matchup at 7:00 p.m. tonight as well. NIU is 4-0 in the MAC while Akron is 2-2.

The Broncos then will have two games left on their schedule. They will have matchups with Ball State and Northern Illinois. If WMU wants any chance of going to the MAC Championship Game, they will more than likely have to win out. WMU still is behind NIU in the standings and must surpass them to take the top spot in the MAC West.

WMU’s schedule will not be a cake walk. The defense will have to step up along with freshman quarterback Kaleb Eleby as Jon Wassink remains sidelined with an ankle injury. Tune in for the Broncos game tonight on ESPNU.
