After splitting two games in their homestand, the Bronco men went on the road for a conference matchup with the Northern Illinois Huskies. The Broncos locked down on defense, stifling the Huskies’ offense and playing efficient on offense in a blowout 71-34 victory.

The Broncos controlled the game from the start. After the Huskies scored the first basket of the game, an 11-2 Bronco run made the game 11-4 at the 14:34 mark of the first half. The Bronco lead would grow to 16 in the half as their defense allowed only 20 points to the Huskies in 20 minutes on 28 percent shooting. The Broncos shot a respectable 47.4 percent, also making five three-point shots in the half.  At the end of the half, the Broncos led 31-20.

The second half was more of the same from the Broncos. The lead grew to 20 at the 14:04 mark of the second half on a free throw from Shayne Whittington. Nearly eight minutes later, the Bronco lead grew to 30 on more Whittington free throws. The lead would grow eventually to 37 on a Taylor Perry layup with 2:06 remaining in the game.

The Broncos shot a very efficient 10-16 in the second half, and made 18-20 free throws. Their defense was dominant in the half, as they held the Huskies to 13 percent shooting, as the Huskies made only four of 30 field goals in the half, and only

one of 11 three-point shots.

The Broncos were led by David Brown with 13 points coming off the bench. Nine different Broncos scored, and all 12 dressed players got on the floor. The Broncos dominated the rebound battle, 42-27, and their bench scored 43 points compared to only 11 for the Husky bench.

The Broncos raised their record to 10-8 with the victory, and are now 2-2 in conference play. They will return home for a game on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. against Eastern Michigan. Then they head onto the road on Saturday, Jan. 26 for a 7 p.m. matchup with rival Central Michigan.
