Vote no on Non-discrimination proposal , homosexuality a sin

It looks like Western Michigan University is a liberal arts college with liberal views. How can these people who talk about tolerance [not] tolerate anybody that [don’t] share their views, namely conservatives. I make no apology for my statements or vote at the last WSA meeting. I strongly oppose the Gay Rights ballot initiative for one very important reason. Homosexuality is a sin and an abomination to the Lord. A romantic relationship was designed by Him to be between a man and woman and only between a man and woman. People think otherwise should read the story of Sodom and Gommorrah in the book of Genesis in God’s Holy Word. God made Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve. I encourage everyone to vote no on this terrible idea.

  1. Rick says:

While we are at it, are there any witches we can burn? C’mon man, just because you have an issue with gays doesn’t mean you have to bring down an act that could potentially help hundreds with legal and civil issues that our soldiers have fought to protect for us “normal folk.” You have a right to your own opinion, but I pray that you gain a little more tolerance and let God do the judging, not you.

  2. City Resident says:

Mickey, I think it’s important to leave this issue to residents of the City of Kalamazoo, as we are the only ones who can vote in the upcoming referendum. I hope you will reconsider your clearly discriminatory outlook on this issue before Three Rivers considers a similar ordinance.

  3. Dorothy says:

Hey Mickey, while we are it, lets get all those bad bad people that like to eat porkchops since Leviticus 11 prohibits eating certain kinds of meat, not because it was morally wrong but to set Israel apart from the pagan idolaters surrounding them and to keep them from eating meat offered to idols. Also, lets get all those people who buy their food at meijers because Leviticus 19:19 prohibits cross-breeding animals or plants, if you’ve ever eaten store-bought spaghetti sauce or corn chips, both are made with hybrid vegetables and would have been prohibited under Leviticus 19:19.
And my all time favorite, lets get all of those divorced sinners because in Mark 10:11-12, Jesus forbids divorce and instructs us that when a divorced man or woman re-marries, they commit adultery so what do you say, should we go in a sinners hunt?

  4. Chris Vogtmann says:

One of the codes that explicitly bans homosexual acts, also prohibits eating raw meat, planting 2 different kinds of seed in the same field and wearing garments with 2 different kinds of yarn. Tattoos, adultery and sexual intercourse during a woman’s menstrual period are similarly outlawed. It is also stated that if you dont follow his (Leviticus)’s word on ANY of these you are just as much of an “abomination” as just breaking one such as homosexual acts.

It is also stated that homosexual references are NOT in the original language of the bible, but were put in when it was being converted to English because they did not know the actual translation of some words.

  5. Dustin says:

I think it’s funny what whenever someone who speaks about the Lord’s views on something (as is clear in the Bible) some people automatically brings up Leviticus – forgetting that Leviticus was written for OT Jews. Leviticus doesn’t tell Christians how to live because most Christians today are Gentiles (non-Jews). Leviticus it is a view into how Jews were instructed to live – that doesn’t mean Christians ignore it, however: it’s a view into understanding God and HIS value system (which doesn’t change, even if the very specific Laws in the OT don’t apply). When people like Mickey speak about sin and whatnot, throwing Leviticus in their face is ridiculous and makes no sense if you actually know what you’re talking about.
And yeah, Christians sin. I know many who divorce even though we are instructed not to…but why would we “get” them? That’s not our place.

My main point is that no matter your view point, you’ve got to commend this guy (real name or not) for speaking his mind in an environment that is so clearly hostile to this type of position.

  6. Dustin says:

Plus it’s funny how the Herald doesn’t fix his tense errors or anything like that. They leave the sentences awkward and not add in words to make him look dumb. Maybe he isn’t the best writer, but you (the Herald) edit every other letter to the editor (as you’ve done to mine in the past), but not this one. Very professional.

  7. Dana says:

Really? Maybe you’d like to look at this from a different point of view. How would you feel if landlords and employers evaluated you based on your religion? “One of those Christians? Well I don’t agree with that.” Looks like that job you were looking for or that house you wanted to live in is off limits now. Why is it okay for you to discriminate against others? Is it just because you don’t have to worry about being discriminated against? Because no one can stop you from living your life, ONE YOU CHOSE, the way you want? No one should be able to be discriminated against because of any factors race, sex, religion, sexual preference. Engrained in our heads since we were small: Luke 6:31 “And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.” So why treat someone like they aren’t a person that deserves the same rights as you just because they live their life differently?

And enough with the “Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve”. Seriously? People are still saying that? Join us in the 21st century.

  8. I.A. says:

Has there been a problem with landlords discriminating against gays in the past? I’ve neither read nor heard anything about it until this issue.

  9. Jimmy Bruno says:

First of all, proof read what you write. You will be taken more seriously. Second, employ a bit of tact. Before saying something that will anger a group of people you should avoid using phrases such as ‘abomination to the Lord’.

The voter initiative has nothing to do with promoting homosexuality. It’s an anti-discrimination clause. It doesn’t necessarily mean discrimination is happening right now, but if it did there is nothing legal to hold guilty parties accountable. I don’t agree with everything the LGBT community wishes to pass due to my religious beliefs, but I believe that the possibility of discrimination is wrong and safeguards should be in place.

Also, if you’re going to quote biblical stories, please quote them in context. Sodom and Gomorrah were not destroyed because of homosexuality. While those who read Genesis 19 may think so, they obviously haven’t read Genesis 18. God was deciding whether or not to destroy the cities due to ‘the outcry against them’ and ‘their sin being great’. Abraham, knowing his relative Lot lived in the area, bargained with the Lord. The deal was that if 10 innocent people were found in the city it would be saved. Obviously, that didn’t happen and the cities were destroyed. This was not because of homosexuality, though in Genesis 19 the denizens were characterized as such since they (mean and women) wanted to rape the male angels that visited Lot.

Biblical interpretation to the side, I will be voting yes on the initiative because I believe it is the right thing to do. I’d highly consider you think and pray about it too.

  10. Dave Alumni says:

Mickey is stating the cautions of sin in life. God has given us a free will, a choice to listen to His direction or not. With a choice, comes consequences, good for you by applying God’s direction or bad for you, the worlds progessive ideas. The beauty about being a Christian, God has given us set standards with clear results when making poor life decisions. Whether you believe the bible or not, they still apply to your life. 2 Timothy 2:19-26 and 1 Timothy 2:3-5 are a couple examples of poor decisions and the benefits of salvation. John 3:16-19 is a simple way to accept Christ in your life. Your life will change, but only when you allow God to change it. So, do your research and look up the verses and think for yourself. Life is very short and there is an eternity.

  11. Mickey Hanson says:

It’s absolutely amazing. These people who disagree with me have a right to do so, but they must base them on facts not emotions. First, when Jesus said not to judge, he meant we should not assume we know everything about a person. Experts say you should criticize a behavior rather than an individual. This is what He was refering to. Also, these critics of mine are only proving my point of not tolerating those who don’t share them. Yes, I’m vocal of my criticism of homsexuality, but so was Dr. King about segregation. I’m not interest in popularity contests in obeying my Lord. I told the truth and unfortunately, the truth hurts.
