Take pride in Western Michigan University

The students of Western Michigan University should be proud of their school.

We always talk about what the university should do for us as students, but we should ask ourselves what should we do for our university?

The answer to this question requires a lot of thinking from us, because we all have a strong moral commitment towards developing our university and making it one of the best in the world.
All WMU students share a similar ideology, which I call the academic institution ideology. In this ideology, we all have different attitudes about our university, but we share our sense of belonging to it.

We are acquiring a lot of things from the university, such as education, knowledge, cultural perspectives and behavior. We all represent the academic values of our university wherever we go. We are also the ambassadors of it in our countries and even in the United States.

I think that we, as students, are responsible for developing our university by taking effective steps.

The first one is to offer positive criticism to the administration. We have to focus on creative ideas that make our university prominent and developed.

The university is always in need of innovations and ideas. Additionally, severe criticism is not always favored in academic institutions because it does not give clear solutions for occurring problems. We need to think of suggestions to solve the problems that we criticize.

As students, we need to achieve the academic message we acquire from our university to all the people who are in need of it. To achieve this goal, our commitment to transfer this message should be accompanied with arming ourselves with the good knowledge that enables us to play this role effectively.

We have to focus on doing a lot of creative research that portrays WMU prominently. We should not always conduct research because we are obliged to do it. We have to have the eagerness to conduct fruitful research that globally markets WMU.

What is annoying at WMU is that some students talk about it in a bad light. They characterize it as a “party school” and “a school for fun.”

I think that using these words is not relevant because one of the activities and goals of the university is to make its students learn. These words may hurt WMU locally and globally because prospective students may not think about joining, depending on these characteristics.

When international students hear such negative words, they will lose their confidence in themselves as students belonging to a distinguished university. International students are considered as the future investment of the university because they will market it in their countries and spread its message to all institutions and peoples.

I think that WMU is one of the most distinguished universities all the over the world.

We have to be proud of it because it helps us develop our personalities and behavior.

The sacred academic message we are acquiring from it should be appreciated through working hard to develop our university and market it globally.

This is our real commitment as students.
