Readers share the love of Valentine’s day

Dear WMU,
Thirty years ago, in the Kanley Chapel on WMU’s campus, my mom and dad got married. They met in the Kendall Manor apartments when my mom offered my dad a bite of her ice cream cone. After four weeks of dating they decided to get married and seven months later they were married. My parents’ love has stood the test of time and is truly admirable. They are true soul mates. Theirs is the kind of love that you see in movies and the kind I was convinced I was never ever going to find. My mother told me that I would eventually meet the right man, I just had to be patient and not force it. We had no idea that you, WMU, would play matchmaker again.

In the spring of 2008, I “officially” met him. We did research in the same lab, but he being a graduate student and I, an undergraduate student, we were very busy with our own schedules. Around the time my experiment began, I asked him for help in finding some research articles. He agreed, and after many missed calls, e-mails, and schedule rearrangements, we finally were finally able to meet at 2 a.m. on a weeknight. We got food and talked about the articles and our research and just talked and talked.  And that was it.  The connection was instant, real and genuine. My true love, my best friend and my soul mate sitting right there across from me at 2 a.m. on a school night at Steak and Shake.

Bryan is an incredibly intelligent man on his way to becoming a truly capable and contributing scientist to the field of illicit drug research. He is the most hardworking, determined, selfless, genuine person I know. He has unleashed a passion for science in me that I would not have been able to find if it wasn’t for his influence and steadfast support. My life has taken on a new, wonderful and fulfilling purpose since he has entered it. My life was not complete without him, and I am truly grateful for our love. Although there is no Kanley chapel wedding in our near future, I still cannot look past the fact that WMU not only brought my parents together, but he and I.  Thank you WMU, for my Bryan. I owe you one.
