Readers share the love of Valentine’s Day

I first met Dan in Life Drawing class back in 2006. At the time he was a mystery to me, always drawing away back in the corner behind me. One day I ended up sketching him for some reason, and then the next week he volunteered to be a model for some action shots. The interest started at that moment. A year flew by; I always wanted to know more about him. I knew he was younger than me, and I tend to date older men so I moved on since I was involved with someone at the time.
I then found out that I worked with his aunt. I would ask her how he was doing and she would tell me that he wasn’t happy in his current relationship. He found me not too long after that on Facebook. We continued to talk off and on. A “how are you?” here and there. Then 2007 came in with a bang. One day at work in January, I found out that Dan’s aunt lost her father, I saw her grieve and I knew he wasn’t far behind. Then two months to the day Dan lost his mother to breast cancer. I again saw his aunt in mourning. During this time, we were not talking face to face, but I always had an attraction toward him and compassion to be that one person to hug him that would make things feel OK.
Time flew by again; it was mother’s day 2008. Dan wasn’t in a good mood due to the fact it was only a year since he lost his mom. So, I decided to hang out with him at Coffee Works. We decided to go visit his mom’s grave an hour later. I don’t think I have ever cried that hard in someone’s arms before. I saw that she was only 4 months younger than my mother when she passed. Since that day, I have seen a change in the way I value life in general.
Not far after that moment, we started dating. I was pretty depressed before, and with the love and support that he has shown, I have found the “one” we all look for. Eventually I can see us getting married and spending the rest of our lives together. I love you Dan. Thank you for helping me thus far. I look forward to many more years of happy memories with you.
