He doesn’t actually use Twitter, but the energy of it is all him.
— Chris Romero, on being the ghostwriter for 50 Cent’s Twitter account. The rapper is one of the most-followed celebrities on the site.
The tweet has hit the fan.
It’s not really shocking that 50 Cent employs a ghostwriter to operate his Twitter account; I’m sure many other celebrities do too. It just further illustrates the uselessness of the social networking site.
Twitter has exploded over the past few months, going from a little known gadget to a full blown phenomenon. Congressmen are tweeting on the Senate floor, Shaq is tweeting at half time, your mom is tweeting in the grocery store.
The latest Facebook makeover clearly hopped on the Twitter bandwagon, from the larger fonts to the rounded, almost cartoony Web design. I found this slightly ironic, because Twitter is, more or less, the same as Facebook status. Both services fufill the human necessity to make sure everyone knows exactly what you’re doing whenever you’re doing it, in real-time.
Human self-worth has gone completely off the deep end. I don’t know what’s worse: compulsively tweeting about your daily life or assuming that anyone cares about your daily life enough to follow your every beck and tweet. The people that benefit from Twitter are actually folks like 50 Cent. The publicists of the rich and the famous foresaw the marketing goldmine and pounced. Remember, it may not be 50 on the tweet, but the energy of it is all him. In 140 characters or less.
