I was told by my administrator … that ‘You should not even have bothered to come to work today. You should have blown your brains out.’
—Ervin Lupoe, Los Angeles resident who murdered his wife and five young children before committing suicide due to the job losses of him and his spouse.

I may never understand what goes through the minds of those of us who feel hopeless. But, the loss of hope can drive people to madness.
I do understand that nothing people can own can help us escape the pain we feel from failure. Not more than a month ago, a German billionaire committed suicide after failure of his businesses. Now we see shocking tragedy on the other end of the economic scale as ends continue to get harder to meet for some.
I can’t understand how someone can come to the conclusion that taking their children’s lives is better than letting them being raised by someone else. I’m not sure about every part of the world, but for the most part in developed nations there is more to live for than meeting other’s standards success. Success lies the things we can’t sell on eBay, such as the unbiased respect of an infant child, or the peace that comes from tomorrow’s hopes. For a couple to conclude to kill themselves and their five children is unnecessary in a time when people are looking to adopt and many makeshift families are built from unrelated people or extended family members raising children. There is always someone out there to help any situation.  Case in point, two days after the billionaire’s suicide banks agreed to save his business.
My fear is that as dreams continue to be deferred and goals remain ungrasped in this time of worldwide desperation, we will continue to hear stories like this. I can’t understand the pain that would drive people to such horrendous conclusions, and I halfway hope I never need to.

  1. Hi,

Response to Ken Deffeyes, “Peak Oil Price article”
I witnessed a young woman on campus researching a report on the Ken Deffeyes article written here. I glanced to notice just the title of the article, and was completely shocked at the blatant ignorance of The Western Herald’s printing of a misinformed educational talk on campus. This is THE worst article I have ever seen printed, and has misinformed anyone who has visual and intellectually analyzed it. Ken Deffeyes would be as disgusted with this as I am with this piece. His talk was about peak oil production, and the price of oil never even came into the picture. His message was conveying the urgency of being at a peak moment in our world’s history where we need to focus on renewable energy because, we have tapped into a finite resource which production was on the downside of the bell curve. I am not sure if the author of this garbage attended the talk, and if she was present…she obviously was not conscious. This is inexcusable media fraud, and has to be corrected in an upcoming daily Herald column. Please edit these articles, and make sure you are conveying information closet to the absolute truths about the important and pertinent information to all readers of The Western Herald. I am strongly disappointed, and hope a correction article will shortly be printed on the behalf of misguided. I truly am sorry for having to write in such a sobering tone, but I feel that this is an unforgivable mistake on behalf of your staff and editor. Thanks for your time. Again I apologize, but think this is such an important topic in which the facts need to be relayed accurately.(Please visit links to find the facts about Dr. Kenneth Deffeyes and peak Oil Production.)
