Obama comes to Kalamazoo

By Zeke Trezevant

President Barack Obama came to Kalamazoo Monday to speak at Kalamazoo Central High School’s 2010 commencement. Personally, I’ve heard the president speak on two occasions before this but neither of those (including the inauguration) compared to Monday. Monday was a day I’ll never forget simply because I highly doubt I’ll ever be that close to another United States president.

Of all the things that I noticed, the one that stood out the most was Obama’s sincerity. I sat back and watched everything he did before he spoke. I watched how he sat, his motions, how he interacted.

Everything.

Obama seems to me to be one of the most down to earth people, let alone presidents, we’ve ever seen. I don’t know how many of the past presidents have had such lively crowds everywhere they went. You may not agree with all of his politics, but he commands respect.

It’s well known that Obama is a great speaker, but the fact that he seems to genuinely mean most of the things he says makes it even better. Now, he is obviously a politician so I am sure he says things that aren’t true, but he is easily one of the most inspirational figures of our time. There hasn’t been a president this polarizing since Kennedy and there probably won’t be another president like him for a while.

Also, I must say, I am extremely proud of the seniors at Kalamazoo Central High. I know they put in a lot of hard work to win the contest for President Obama to speak at their commencement. I don’t think they fully understand how many lives they impacted with all of their hard work.

Congratulations class of 2010.

  1. This was a very good artical. It gave you insight into our President. Yes I do believe he is down to earth and cares about the people. The one thing I have always liked about him is the fact he thinks before he moves and calls in experts in the field he is thinking of. He may look clam and no show a lot of emothion at times, but that is an anilitical mined. He cares and has worked very hard for our country since coming into office. He has improved things a little at a time working on several things at one time. His only problem is he has tried to get all to work together.Which is, or would be a good thing but the other party wants to be a party of no , this is their words not mine, they even said they wanted him to fail. This is wrong. If only our country would work together. It would be beautiful. I don’t belong to any party, this is just the way I feel.
