Letter to the editor: Vote Nordstand-Dunsmore
On the week of elections for WSA president and vice president, make your voice heard! Western Student Association is on this campus for you, in concurrence with that, I think it is imperative we also get someone in the leadership position who is in it for you. This is why I support Nordstrand-Dunsmore with all of my heart. I have worked closely with both individuals as a fellow advisor, RA and co-worker. I have seen their dedication in more ways than one.
I worked with Stacey Nordstrand as an Orientation Student Leader, Resident Assistant, MORHA staff and Ackley-Shilling Hall Council (ASAP) advisor. I have also worked under her, as she was my advisor when I was on the ASAP e-board.
In every situation, Stacey has put in 100 percent effort and has been one of the most reliable people in my life. I can always count on her to get stuff done and done right. The thing that amazes me the most about Stacey is her dedication to this school and the students in attendance. As the spirit chair, I spent many nights talking with her about strategies to get students pumped and bring the excitement and energy WSA had to offer this year to our campus.
Courtney, similarly, has made a name for herself. Serving on WSA e-board since her freshman year, she has proven herself committed. She is a caring, loving and focused individual who commits herself to giving back. I watched her last year give life to her hall council while getting little to no reinforcement by the hall itself along the way. This showed her commitment in even the most difficult environments.
So this election, make the right choice. Vote for vision, motivation and experience. Give your vote to those who want to represent YOU. Vote Nordstrand-Dunsmore.

How credible is this? The person who wrote this has been one of the campaign managers for Stacey’s campaign.
I’ve seen a lot of support for Nate and Janine, and I’d like to see some actual students out there detached from Stacey who believe she is a better candidate. It seems there are none!
None may be too harsh a term. I have been to several of Stacey’s campaign team meetings and every week there are a fresh batch of volunteers.
You want more? Stacey visited over 40 student organizations. She engaged a diverse group of students while Nate seemed to bank on his close friends. This is an election, not a popularity contest. The students see the traits that truly matter, the ways that Stacey and Courtney are better qualified and capable of guiding the WSA in their best interests. Some of the organizations endorsed her while others questioned her for upwards of an hour.
That being said, Nate seems to be running a campaign based on the last-minute push. We found out during the debates that he is not a humble leader (proven by his inability to answer questions about weakness and failures) and if so many students were not raising their voices his campaign would be left in the dust. It’s a clever move, I’ll give him that, but it is not what the students need.
Last year, the Emerick-Meyer campaign manager wrote a letter to the editor. The Western Herald endorsed the Harik-Crowe campaign, just as they have endorsed the Knappen-Putnam campaign this year. It is completely acceptable for the campaign managers to write letters to the editor, especially when the Western Herald has endorsed the opposing campaign. I actually think that this is a good idea. I think it is important for the voters to read positive words about all candidates, especially since many of the voters are not as educated about the campaign as they could be.
Hey Sean Taylor,
Considering Nate and Janine’s actions got the WSA Election voided and have embarrassed the student government, maybe you should focus less on the author and more on the content, or maybe the actions of the candidates. Vote Nordstrand-Dunsmore AGAIN April 13-15!
Nothing could embarrass the WSA more than Nordstrum-Dumbsmore running the show. We need some intelligence at the helm; not Praedel/Ringer’s call girls posing up front while they pull the strings in the shadows. They used their cronies in the JC to steal a landslide victory away from Nate and Janine. Put an end to their shady antics! Rule of the students, not those who have the right boyfriends pulling strings and cutting scummy deals to get fair and honest elections thrown out. The students have spoken! To the sour losers: GET OVER IT!
NATE: DON’T LET THESE THUGS MUSCLE YOU OUT OF YOUR PRESIDENCY!
Lisa,
I’m sorry, but who are you and where do you get your conspiracy theories? Are you high right now?
I’m a grad student at the University of Kansas, Chris is working for Teach for America, and you think in our free time we’re muscling people at WMU?
I don’t think anyone’s ever called me a thug or said I could muscle anyone anywhere. Furthermore, we both have our own lives to attend to, and beyond the interests in my loved one’s life, I could care less what happens in the WSA. I am outraged though when dirt and slander is thrown at the people I care about, so if you’d like to go down that road, let me know when you’d like to have a one-on-one conversation.
If you talked to anyone who knew anything about what’s going on, you’d know that Chris and I have done nothing to influence the outcome of the election, save for some facebook messages telling people to vote.
I’m glad you like to create fake events and conversations. I wish I actually had that much influence at WMU, even when I was a student there. However, you should actually try talking to someone who actually knows whats going on.
Have a nice day and try to stay off the pipe.
Whatever! The JC is stacked with all of Chuck/Praedel’s (aka puppetmasters of Nardstrim/Dumbsmore) friends — many of them Praedel appointed himself. The whole process is rigged. Their “ruling” is a sham. I can’t believe we’re spending our limited school resources on running another election. You don’t disqualify a basketball team just because someone had a foul — there are penalities for any rules infraction, but they are not defaulted to “new election.” So 10 votes (who may have all gone to Nordstraem/Dumbsmore) were obtained through a method that the ECB didn’t like — maybe even 100 votes. Doesn’t change a thing! The vote was overwhelmingly lopsided.
The students have spoken — GET OVER IT SORE LOSERS. There has to be some check on the JC determining elections instead of the students — just because your boyfriend stacks the council with his buddies doesn’t mean they can rule election redos until the students “get it right.” I am frankly amazed that SALP is letting this circus continue. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some “budget cutbacks” at the SALP office over this complete fiasco.
Chuck- Really?!?! If you could care less for what happens in the WSA, then why do you continue to make comments? Ohhhh…. because you have no life. That’s right! And by the way, I am suprised you even know what a pipe is. What are you going to do when you get in the real world when things don’t go your way.
Stop being such cry babies. Get over yourselves!!
First off, there was no deal cut. The Judicial Council is made up of 5 independent justices. Two were appointed by Praedel and 3 by Harik. All of them are student leaders and combined have over 15 years of student leadership experience. To suggest that these are biased individuals is ridiculous. If you feel this was a scam, get your facts together and try to remove them from office. Otherwise stop attacking them for doing their job.
But even beyond that Lisa, you are sadly misinformed. It was the Election Control Board (none appointed by Praedel and all confirmed by the student senate) that contested the election results. And also, the elections don’t really cost any money… just those dollars spent by the campaigns themselves. If you have any further concerns, or would like to be educated before making your wild accusations, please visit the WSA on Wednesday 4:15 in room 157 at the Bernhard Center.
Personal attacks against any of the candidates is uncalled for and the Western Herald should be ashamed of themselves for letting these posts get through. Nordstum-Dumbsmore is a personal attack that is not supported by any facts.
Let’s place nice children.
Western Herald- Get your act together.
I’m sorry, calling Nordstrand-Dunsmore by that rediculous name is just uncalled for. I’m really ready to work hard for these two women.
Yeah, stop calling Nerdstrim-Damesmare by the wrong name! LETS FOCUS ON THE ISSUES PEOPLE!
I’m sure the election is costless, just like all the T-shirts, worthless events nobody attends, and all the other self-righteous crap that the WSA does. Right? The election “just happens.” Well, I guess its costless to those who get to take credit. The WSA members are so full of themselves. They want recognition and praise just for spending money that isn’t theirs and feel like they’re “making a difference” just by meeting in a room every Wednesday. If they wanted to make a real difference, they’d cut a check for the full amount of the SALP to the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation and have the members get an extra hour of study in every week. I can’t think of a single thing the WSA has done in the past decade that could come even close to being as productive or doing more good as that.
I’m sure everyone “working really hard” though. SALP just needs to finally pull the plug on this whole “student government” experiment. It was a fun ride though!
You should be ashamed for misspelling Ms. Nordstrom and Ms. Dumsmure’s fine names!
PS: WSA when am I getting my T-shirt? I’m going on a trip for summer break and shirts don’t pay for themselves so how’s about we get on that? I gotta look GOOD.
Lisa and KPD,
Ouch. I’m so hurt, semi-anonymous people are making fun of me on westernherald.com. How will i continue to live my life (or apparent lack thereof)? I was wondering though, how do you know anything about me? Have you ever actually personally met me or even seen me? Have you even met someone who has met me? I doubt that you have. However, I’m actually plenty capable of living a fulfilling life and spend a whole 5 minutes on a website at the same time (I’m actually watching family guy while I type this)
I post because I have trouble sitting back while others try to defame people I care about, as most anyone would. I haven’t brought into this discussion my years of service to WMU, my arguably expert knowledge of the WSA, JC, and ECB procedures, or my personal experiences when charges were brought against me while being the Speaker of the Senate. My comments have merely tried to shed light on information that, to me, seems important to share with the students of WMU. I’m sorry that you’ve been so personally effected by this situation that you’ve had to resort to personal attacks on others.
I’m sorry if you feel that this process has been “rigged” by Chris and I, but I feel at this point that there is nothing that I can do to change your perceptions of this situation. If you’d like to message me on facebook and have a private civil discourse, you are more than welcome. You can also just send me insults if that would make you feel better about the personal sacrifice you’ve had to make in this WSA election.
But this whole thing isn’t about me, or you, its about the students of WMU, and making sure that the people elected to represent the 24,000 of them are elected in a process that is fair and untainted. While we cannot change what has already happened, we can move forward and hope that the same mistakes aren’t made. Whatever the outcome of this special election, if it is clean, then the students of WMU will be able to be served by a justly elected president and vice president. This fact is gravely important in continuing the currently high level of respect that the faculty and administration have for the WSA. On this fact, I think we can all agree and move forward to support which ever candidates we feel can best represent the students of WMU. Good luck with classes and upcoming finals.
Remember on April 2nd to vote for Nirdstream/Dinesmaar for WSA! And vote for fellow Bronco Matt Giraud on Idol this week on FOX!
According to ECB Rules 56.3, 157.5, 8.5, 48.5, 4.789, 3.141, 2.718, 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42, and 104.5, none of this crap matters!
PS, the WSA is self-righteous, irrelevant, and should be stripped of its funding. The SALP office needs to tighten the reins on this moneypit!
