The Western Student Association held its first meeting of the 2010-2011 academic year introducing cabinet and committee members while WSA president Aaron Booth delivered the State of the WSA Address.
“I’m proud to say I’m everyone’s president,” Booth said.
In the address Booth announced the proposed creation of a special projects fund worth $8,000 due to a tight WSA budget from the previous year that left a large rollover surplus of unused funds.
He said the fund would focus on small problems around campus like the repairing of holes in the bridge crossing Goldsworth Valley Pond.
“They’re using that for things that pop up during the year,” said Public Relations Chair Erin Borgeson.
While Booth says he has been gathering input from students about the organization’s allocation of funds, maintaining fiscal responsibility was imperative.
He also spoke of efforts during the summer semesters to transform Western Michigan University’s Bernhard Center into a student union, while the search for a new student director for the building continues.
Three new members were introduced, filling positions on both the WSA cabinet and select committees.
During their introductions members hinted at new initiatives they hoped to accomplish, including bridging gaps between the Greek community on campus and a shirt swap program.
The WSA will meet again Sept. 22, at 4:15 p.m. in room 210 of the Bernhard Center.

Wait, did I read that correctly? Booth wants to spend student money on things the university administration should be. Correct me if I’ wrong but I thought the SAF was suppose to be going towards students not the university administration failings. This is just another prime example of why the WSA is a joke. They aren’t looking out for students interests, people like Booth just want a nice letter of recommendation from Dunn. So they do anything that makes the university administration look better, the students that elected them can rot for all they care, no wonder the WSA has lost it’s legitimacy, with people like Booth and his close friends in charge how could we get anything that isn’t a sham.
The WSA continues to be a complete and utter abomination in its spending of student funds. What’s worse than a bunch of self-important idiots? A bunch of self-important idiots with the keys to your wallet.
I find the above comments amusing, in Booth’s State of the WSA address he said that the WSA finished off last year strong with good creditability and student support. What a joke!
