Western Herald File

The Western Michigan hockey team is ranked 11th in the USA Today/USA Hockey preseason poll.

Last year the reigning CCHA champions started the season ranked 13th. Western is returning 18 players including CCHA tournament MVP goalie Frank Slubowski, CCHA top defensive defensemen Danny Dekeyser, and their top three scorers in Chase Balisy, Shane Berschbach, and Dane Walters.

WMU is the listed behind only the University of Michigan, Notre Dame University, and the University of Miami (OH) in CCHA. NCAA runner-up Ferris State is ranked 14th to give the CCHA five teams in the top 15.

WMU will play Michigan, Ferris State, and Nortre Dame four times during the regular season (not including the Great Lakes Invitational which includes WMU, Michigan, Michigan State, and Michigan Tech). The Broncos will play Miami only twice.

The Broncos will open up the season Oct. 6th at Lawson arena in an exhibition match against Western Ontario at 7:30 p.m.
