Due to a break in a sewer main near Fraternity Village Drive and Layfayette Street, hundreds of gallons of sanitary discharge leaked into the intermittent drainage ditch near Arcadia creek Wednesday afternoon, according to a press release from the City of Kalamazoo.

Kalamazoo  Department of Public Services and the Kalamazoo County Health and Human Services Department urge patrons to avoid contact with the leakage and with the surface water in the selected area, indicated on the map above.

“If contact with raw sewage is made avoid spreading and tracking; clean and disinfect shoes, clothes and skin thoroughly,” according to the press release.

Public Services representatives are working to find the source of the breakage and repair it.
