Beginning next fall, students will pay an additional $13 on their tuition, as both referendums proposed on the Western Student Association ballot have been approved by the voting population of Western Michigan University.

There were 1,348 voters in this year’s election.

Aviation students will no longer pay the $105 transportation fee that they have previously in order to travel from WMU’s main campus in Kalamazoo to the aviation campus in Battle Creek. Instead, all students will pay an $8 fee in order to maintain equality in transportation. Aviation students will pay an additional $8 on top of the fee, totalling $16.

Students involved in the Equality in Transportation Initiative believe that because students on other campuses such as the Parkview campus and the College of Health and Human Services have transportation provided to them, aviation students should as well.

Students passed the Equality in Transportation Initiative with a 61 percent margin.

The Save Student Media Initiative, which proposed a $5 to fund student media outlets such as the Western Herald and WIDR-FM, also passed. The $5 fee will enable these media outlets to remain in existance and improve their content as they become more acclimated to the evolving world of media.

Students passed the Save Student Media Initiative with a 63 percent margin.
