Choirs will sing and students will dance as Will.I.Am of Black Eyed Peas and Tatyana Ali from the television show The Fresh Price of Bel-Air take the stage to champion the cause of “Students for Barack Obama”.
The event, dubbed “Step for Change” is aimed at encouraging students to register to vote.
Crowds will gather in front of Sangren Hall on Saturday afternoon, says WMU senior Nicole Vafadari.
“Students represent a huge voting block,” says Vafadari, who believes that many students are oblivious to the “power they have as voters.”
Indeed, with over 20,000 in Western Michigan University alone, students represent a formidable chunk of the nation’s pool of registered voters, and Vafadari hopes an event such as the “Step for Change” will act as a catalyst for students who haven’t yet registered.
“We’re hoping to get students pumped about voting in the upcoming election.”
For more information students are encouraged to text WMU to the address OBAMA (62262).
