In this day and age, small businesses are looking for anything to get an edge on the competition. Whether it be cutting back prices or having special deals, in the business world it’s all about the customer. Small businesses today are conforming to the social media network. Ultizing sites like Facebook and Twitter to promote their business.
“Businesses who employ this style of online marketing are less worried because of its guaranteed success,” said Andy Brautigam, owner of A+B small business marketing.
A+B small business marketing helps small businesses in the Kalamazoo area succeed by giving the businesses tips on how to market their business. Brautigam says businesses are looking to know more about social networking.
“Businesses create Twitter accounts so that the owners can post constant updates about their business,” said Brautigam. “It’s becoming the fastest way for businesses to get the information out.”
Social Networking is the new way a business thrives in the economy that everyday citizens live in. Citizens no longer have to wait and see if their favorite stores have deals going on. Also, businesses do not have to pay as much in Advertising, because they use sites like Facebook and Twitter.
“It’s a blessing that I don’t have to spend as much on advertising, when I can just advertise freely on my Facebook,” said Alicia Cooney, owner of Big Apple Bagels, business in Kalamazoo.
Big Apple Bagels, has their own Facebook page and Twitter page to let their customers know of their specials.
“It’s also a way we can connect with our customers and see what they want and like,” said Cooney.
As technology changes, so does everything else. With businesses, the use of internet and social networking can potentially either make or break a business.
“Social network marketing is grown to such a height that today many businesses can’t earn without it.” said Brautigam.

This sounds good in theory, but I haven’t talked to many small business owners that are successfully using social media yet. I’m sure there are some, but the majority of owners I talk to don’t see the time spent is worth the effort for the weak response they’ve seen. I know in my business (gas station), Facebook may be of value, but I just don’t see Twitter being as effective.
