Election season has begun and the College Democrats at Western Michigan University are having Secretary of State candidate Jocelyn Benson speak at their Wednesday meeting.
“As Secretary of State, one of the main things she would deal with is voting rights,” Max Glick said.
Educated at Oxford and Harvard universities, Benson currently works at Wayne State University Law School as an assistant professor.
Glick said this effects students because there are myths regarding student’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid when they register to vote with their college address. If elected, Benson would be the person who, according to Glick, makes sure none of the myths ring true.
“We will also be discussing ways to help out [her campaign] further in Kalamazoo,” Glick said.
This is the first of many other candidate talks the College Democrats will hold this semester, with democrat candidates running for the state house and senate.
Following her speech there will be a question and answer session with Benson.
The event is open to the public and will take place in room 213 of the Bernhard Center at 8 p.m.
