The 2012 Homecoming Campus Classic will take place Saturday, October 6 on Western Michigan University’s main campus. WMU students and people of all ages in the surrounding area are encouraged to register for the event.
Race director, Sue Beougher said that the Campus Classic is a great event.
“Prizes are available. Participants have the chance to win a $500 AAA travel voucher and 10 WMU parking passes are available for WMU student participants,” Beougher said. Beougher also added that participating in the Campus Classic is a good way to start homecoming morning.
Beougher said that the numbers for the Campus Classic have increased between 100 and 150 runners every year. The Campus Classic website reported on that last year’s Campus Classic race drew in over 1,900 runners and walkers.
The Campus Classic has a 5K run, 5K fun walk and a 1K fun run and walk. The Campus Classic website states that the 5K fun walk and 1K events are not timed. The 1K fun run and walk will take place on the Kanley Track and will begin at 8:45 a.m. The 5K run and walk begin in front of WMU’s Student Recreation Center at 9:15 a.m.
Beougher said that the Campus Classic events will occur through rain or shine.
Information about the event or about how to register for the Campus Classic can be found online at wmich.edu/campusclassic. Online registration ends at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4 and registration by printable form or brochure is also due by Thursday, Oct. 4.
Participants can register on Oct. 5 and 6, but will have to pay extra.
The Homecoming Campus Classic is one of many events during homecoming week that lead up to WMU’s homecoming game.
Registration for this event is available now through the day of the race.
