Sindecuse Health Center began vaccinating high-risk students, staff, and faculty for H1N1 yesterday.
On Monday, SHC sent out an e-mail to the university community asking them to register to receive the vaccine. The registration process helps Sindecuse prioritize who will get the vaccine as well as reduce long lines.
So far, Sindecuse Health Center has received 2,950 completed registrations as of Wednesday night, Lisa Marshall, M.D., SHC wrote in an e-mail.
Vaccines will be prioritized by high-risk groups as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The groups include pregnant women and people with chronic health problems.
So far, there have been no medical complications with the vaccine at SHC.
“Sindecuse has not experienced any health risks for those who have received H1N1 vaccine so far,” Marshall wrote.
“We are hearing about the typical side effects that are usually experienced with seasonal flu vaccine such as soreness, swelling, or redness at the site of the injection. Some people are experiencing lightheadedness or temperature elevations.”
Registrants will be notified the time and date of their vaccine via e-mail, which may take several weeks, according to the disclaimer to the registration. WMU will be receiving steady shipments of the vaccine.
