Local residents got a chance to audition to be on reality TV last Saturday.
MTV held a casting session for their show “Made” at Fanfare Sports and Entertainment, Jan. 16, 2010. “Made” is a show about self-improvement and follows a teenager through the steps that the person takes to complete his or her own goals. During the show MTV also helps the teenager by getting a coach to help the teen learn what they are doing and how to take better steps to help them complete their goals. “Made” is currently in a new casting session.
The auditions were held in one of the back offices of the store. The contestants were asked a series of questions pertaining to their goal and the steps that they would take to achieve their goal.
Although few people showed up at the beginning, as the day went on more people came in and out of the store hoping to get their chance to be on the show. They brought with them a variety of goals were represented at the auditions: everything from sports, voice acting, and even professional card playing.
Fanfare had the opportunity to hold the auditions at their store because they worked with MTV in the past for other auditions.
“The goal for us is more exposure for the store and also something fun,” said manager Bill Artis . “You get people that wouldn’t normally know that we are here and some fun generates some excitement. MTV in town is always a good thing.”
Shelby Tieche is someone who has never been in Fanfare before, but came for the auditions.
”I’m here to try out for the “Made” thing that they have going on,” said Tiche. “I’ve never been here before. It’s sweet though, it’s cool, I haven’t seen this before. A lot of awesome stuff [in the store].”
Tieche wants to try out for “Made” because she felt like it would be a good opportunity.
“It’s a cool show, I thought it would be a sweet opportunity and its cool that they came here too,” said Tieche. “I mean it’s such a small town and nothing really happens here. If anyone did get picked here it would be cool.”
Another contestant was Guy Menkes, who has been to Fanfare before but is also trying out for the “Made” auditions.
““I’m just taking a chance, I’ve figured I’ve got nothing to lose,” he said. “Basically I’m going to see if they can help me be a radio personality or like a voice actor for cartoons.”
Menkes said it would be cool if MTV could help him out to follow his dream and it would be exciting if he did get picked to be on “Made”.
“I’ll be pretty pumped, it would be pretty cool,” he said. “ I’m not going to lie, it would be pretty awesome to be on T.V. If they do help me get a job being a radio personality, I mean that’s my dream job. So if they could help me with that it would be pretty amazing.”
The auditions ended at 7 p.m. Everyone had the chance to audition for “Made,” and everyone was hoping to get picked.
“Nothing ever happens here,” said Tieche. “You know you would be known as the kid that got “made” from Kalamazoo, it would be kind of cool.”
