Kalamazoo voters to consider 6 city charter amendments in November
Kalamazoo residents will vote on six proposed amendments that alter outdated language and amend sections of the charter that need to be changed because state law has changed, City Attorney, Clyde Robinson said.
Robinson added that the changes are supported by the Kalamazoo City Commission and the Nov. 6 decision shouldn’t be a controversial one.

Husband and 500-pound woman removed from Warren home
The husband of the 500-pound Warren woman removed from filthy, bug-infested conditions Tuesday says he tried to take adequate care of her.
His 41-year-old wife is in serious but stable condition at St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital in Warren, police said. The couple’s names aren’t being used to protect their four children.

Michigan receives $3.5 million grant for substance abuse prevention
The Bureau of Substance Abuse and Addiction Services has been awarded the three-year $3.5 million grant, the Michigan Department of Community Health said Wednesday.
The money is to help address underage drinking among those ages 12 to 20 and prescription drug misuse and abuse by those ages 12 to 25. Michigan was among a number of states to apply for the funding.

Police across Michigan conduct annual sex offender sweep
Investigators are conducting the ninth annual sex offender sweep, as law enforcement officers across the state pay visits to those convicted of sex crimes. ”Operation Verify” will run through Oct. 30, according to the Michigan State Police.
“Any registered offender who wants to spare themselves a visit from a trooper should verify their address with law enforcement as soon as possible,” Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue, director of the Michigan State Police, said in an announcement.
