Lecture series honors former Dean and Provost Cornelius Loew
The Medieval Institute invites a speaker every fall and spring semester to give a talk in a lecture series named in honor of WMU former Dean and Provost Cornelius Loew.
On Friday, Marcia Colish, professor emerita of Oberlin College and now affiliated with Yale University, will be speaking about early scholastic theology at the University of Paris in Walwood Commons at the WMU East campus.
The Cornelius Loew Lecture series was initiated by the Board of the Medieval Institute in April of 1986 to honor Loew on his retirement after 30 years serving at Western Michigan University.
“The lecture will be about the influence of a particular text, a commentary on a mid-12th-century textbook of theology, on the development of a systematic approach to studying and understanding Christian theology that came to dominate university teaching in the 13th century,” Medieval Institute Assistant Director Elizabeth Teviotdale said.
This event is open to all and strongly encouraged history students, students in the medieval institute and those interested in medieval philosophy.
A reception will be conducted after the lecture.
