Maybe there won’t raquets, nets, and tennis balls at the indoor tennis courts in the Student Recreation Center Tuesday but there will be massage tables, local produce and information on health insurance and mediation at the 2009 Health and Wellness Expo on Tuesday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will be 60 exhibitors set up on the courts, including Gazelle Sports, Rx Optical, Sindecuse Health Center, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

“[The expo] highlights health and wellness in all aspects of life,” said Chris Voss, Associate Director of Facilities & Programming at the SRC.

Last year, around 70 vendors set up tables for the expo. The decline is something that doesn’t phase Voss. “We try to stay fresh and new every year,” he said.

For the first time this year there will be a Fresh & Local Market, which will highlight vendors that sell local food and products, including Water Street Coffee Joint, Fair Food Matters, A Food Affair, and local farmers. There will be food and products for purchase, which is a first for the expo, Voss said.

A common misconception about the expo is that it has to do with physical wellbeing, Voss said. The scope of the expo is far wider than the latest exercise equipment.

“Health and wellness is having choices you can make on a daily basis to improve your quality of life. It’s not just exercise…but being well rounded in everything you do.”

Sindecuse will not be offering its Flu Shot clinic due to shortages in the vaccine, Voss said, but will be providing information on its other services.
