In its continuing mission to provide informational material to the public through film, the Be-In-The-Know Film Series will screen “Considering Democracy: Political Power in the US and Abroad” on Oct. 29.
“Considering Democracy” was filmed in 10 different countries and offers viewers an array of topics demonstrating the efforts of human liberation.
“Too few Americans are participating in the democratic process,” said Elke Schoffers, Ph.D., a volunteer for the film series and department of chemistry faculty member. “This is why we want to inform the public about critical issues of peace, justice and U.S. foreign policy using politically relevant films that are not emphasized in the mainstream media.”
The film depicts critical international views on U.S. domestic and foreign policies and offers a unique perspective for American viewers.
“The film will appeal to a wide audience, the novice as well as the already politically active student,” Schoffers said.
The film is intended to show viewers the real-life implications of politics, at home and abroad.
“Considering Democracy” is a fast-paced film that features insightful ideas in addition to stunning statistics.
“It is like visiting many different countries in one short hour, without leaving your seat,” Schoffers said.
“Democracy is not a spectator sport. It takes everybody to be informed and engaged in polite and passionate conversations with politicians and fellow citizens. Everyone should attend because everyone is affected by politics on a daily basis.”
“Considering Democracy: Political Powers in the US and Abroad” will be shown at 7:30 p.m. in Room 1260 of the Chemistry Building. Admission to the screening is free of charge.
