With the election only weeks away, Congressional hopeful Mike O’Brien answered questions from MLive.com readers during an online chat Monday, moderated by Fritz Klug and Linda Mah with the Kalamazoo Gazette.
O’Brien is the Democratic candidate for Michigan’s 6th seat in the House of Representatives, running against Republican incumbent Fred Upton, who has held the position for 26 years. The Douglas resident is a veteran of the US Marines, and is currently a project manager with furniture company Herman Miller.
During the chat, the candidate answered a number of questions from participants, ranging from his stance on abortion and energy regulation to his plans on improving the local economy.
Below is one quotes from the candidate during the chat:
On working with Republicans to create legislation promoting solar, wind and other alternative energy sources:
I believe we need leaders who have the political courage to set aside party orthodoxy, and stand first for bridging gaps to pass meaningful legislation. Our nation has been through trying times before, and rose to the occasion when we put people first.
