Update: The KDPS have identified the victim as Jheryl Cecil Wright of Kalamazoo.
The person responsible for the shooting death of a 24-year-old Kalamazoo man yesterday morning outside a Kalamazoo convenience store is still at large, according to a story from Aaron Mueller with MLive.com.
According to officials with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, the victim was shot during the early morning hours outside the Quick Stop gas station, located at 1405 Portage Street. Police arrived at the scene at 3:17 a.m., where the found the man laying unresponsive. The victim was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
The person suspected in the murder is still at large. The KDPS is currently searching for a man wearing a black hoodie, 18-20 years old.
Mueller’s story captured the reactions from a couple of local neighbors, who were shocked by the night-time violence:
One neighbor, who wanted to remain anonymous for his safety, said the gunshots “vibrated his toes” and he went outside to see a black man lying outside the doors of the convenience store.
According to MLive, this is the seventh homicide this year reported in Kalamazoo.
