Western Michigan University’s presence is extending to Detroit, as part of a lease agreement approved by the Board of Trustees Monday.

The three-year lease for 1,834 square feet of office space on Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak, Mich. will be used for Admissions staff to help their recruiting efforts, according to Keith Hearit, vice provost for enrollment management.

The lease is for three years with $3,000 monthly payments with Woodward 14 Associates, LLC.

Some 37.4 percent of undergraduates come to WMU from the Metro Detroit area.

Around 60,000 vehicles pass the Woodward location every day, Hearit said. The location was also chosen because it was easily accessible from both the city and suburbs.
