TEASGJ has a very unique role to play in the Adult Swim lineup. When considering what Adult Swim show to take a deeper look at, I had several options. But after watching this show, its clear that if anything needs elaboration, its the minds of Tim and Eric.
Now here’s my theory.
Imagine a friend walks up to you one day and says “Hey, I have a joke.” You ask what it is, and your friend without missing a beat tells you the punchline with you having no knowledge of what the jokes’ set up is. But then you find yourself laughing anyways and you’re not sure why.
This is what watching the Awesome Show is like.
Tim and Eric don’t really waste time telling you what they’re trying to do, but rather drop you down right inside the insanity and let you sort it out yourself. Finding out what is exactly happening is going to be the hardest thing you’ve ever done, but if you do find yourself with some level of understanding, you can see the brilliance in the midst of absurdity.
And the Awesome Show is absolutely absurd. You are seeing yourself brought into some crazy pseudo 80′s parody with a touch of disgusting and a lot of ridiculous.
The majority of the show does in fact seem to be parody. Whether it’s some kind of over-the-top infomercial or a ridiculous social situation, Tim and Eric take it give it a healthy dose of nonsense for our viewing pleasure. They capitalize on the most ridiculous portions of these things, and bring them up as the prevailing purpose of the entire sketch.
And it is a delight.
