But unfortunately, stress tends to fit hand in hand with the common cold. Here are just a few suggestions to keep your [...]

By Nora Strehl Editor in Chief The colors, noise and school spirit were in abundance, as students, faculty and alumni celebrated Homecoming this past week. There was a huge feeling of community, as everyone gathered to celebrate the same two things: WMU and the Bronco football team. I could really feel the love all week, [...]

By Erin Gignac News Editor With a piece of free, greasy pizza in each hand, I devoured the sights and sounds of the first-ever “Paint the Town Brown” pep rally event. Matt Buck Staff Reporter Most high school students have heard the horror stories about attending a larger university; most notably, the fact that many of the larger classes a student attends in college involve never actually speaking to your professor face-to-face. To some freshmen, this horror story may still seem true as WMU students are [...]

Nora Strehl Editor-in-Chief She’s small, fast, hairy and has jumping skills that could rival Michael Jordan’s. Her name is Penny, she’s a dog and my best friend. Two years ago Penny was wandering around a church parking lot (getting her prayer on) when I spotted her. She was so small and skinny that I just [...]

Nora Strehl Editor-In-Chief I don’t know if it was the half eaten box of pizza next to me, but I woke up yesterday morning very thankful. I climbed out of bed, took the Dog-in-Chief for a walk, made myself some bacon and flipped on the tube. Fire, debris and ash flooded the media. Paper falling [...]

The government has cut its support of Western Michigan University’s new Sangren Building, it cut the Michigan Promise Scholarship, and now one of Rick Snyder’s proposed cuts will possibly threaten historic East Campus. Meanwhile, the Kalamazoo Promise seems to be fine, along with the privatized cash gift of $100 million named “Operation Historic Moment.” When [...]

A recent Western Herald article titled “Professors pick your brain: Ten questions for students at WMU” by Katie King (Monday, April 18) inspired me to venture into traditionally unfamiliar territory between students and professors: open, honest dialogue. As a doctoral student in the Department of Sociology here at Western Michigan University, I occupy the unique [...]

It’s about time Western Michigan University’s dining halls went organic.
I mean, come on, there needs to be something changed in the cafeteria. I think I can vouch for most students that there is a general distaste for the food on most days.

As politicians strip away the rights of children, cut funding for public education, neglect neighborhoods, community centers and parks, shrug off annual budget deficits, force kids to choose between personal debt and a college degree, prefer the short-term comfort of adults over long-term investments, and ignore the 21 percent of children who live in poverty, I cannot help but think that children should have the right vote.
