This past weekend it was hard for anyone in the state of Michigan to escape the news of Jim Tressel’s resignation from Ohio State University.

And then there were two.
After an exciting fourth quarter last night in Chicago, the Miami Heat came out victorious with a 83-80 victory that ended the series. With the Heat’s dominance over both the Celtics and Bulls the question still remains, is this a championship caliber team in Miami?

The Bulls hadn’t lost two games in a row since February. Now, the Bulls haven’t won a game since a week from last Sunday.
The Bulls have dropped three straight games to be down 3-1 in the series with the Miami Heat. Probably the worst part about this series is the fact that Chris Bosch maybe the soul reason the Bulls are on the brink of elimination.

Since July 8, the date of the much anticipated and non narcissistic decision produced by ESPN and LeBron James, the focus has been on the Miami Heat.

Tonight the Heat will face off against the Celtics in the most hostile arena in the NBA during the playoffs. With the Heat being up in the series two to zero, Boston will be ready to play. Despite the first two games, this series has just begun.

Zeke Trezevant Sports Editor Good afternoon everyone, we are live from Spartan Stadium in East Lansing. Today, the Western Michigan University Broncos will take on the Spartans from Michigan State University. This is a game that is big for both schools and a great way to kick off the college football season. We’ll be blogging [...]
By Daing S Nasir Western Herald Have you ever imagined how Plato must have felt when Socrates taught him philosophy and doctrine? Do you still remember the touch of the steering wheel of your first car? The dream of the many adventures that you and your car will encounter together? The anticipation of where the [...]

A student asked me the other day about final exams and my experiences as an undergraduate student. I told him that I recall very well the process of preparing for and taking finals. There was the anticipation of the exam, completing the final, and then waiting in great anticipation for the outcome. In between the [...]

We will soon be approaching one of our country’s most treasured holidays—Thanksgiving. For many, this means time with family, lots of turkey, mashed potatoes, and all the trimmings. For others, those not from the USA or those whose cultural roots are different, the day may be more of an opportunity to sleep late, catch [...]
By Alyssa Herter Arts Editor Here’s the thing: I’m a dreamer. Straight up, daydream all the time, dream about the way I wish things could be right now, dream about my future and what it might hold, dream about impossible things coming true… I dream. Being this much of a dreamer can really become a [...]

I enjoy being on Facebook. As of last night, I have approximately 3,000 friends. Most of my friends are WMU students, so that makes the connection special. While interaction with my friends has to be somewhat limited due to time constraints, there is a great comfort in using this social medium to “connect” and to [...]

Click here for selections from 1943 Brown and Gold As Central/Western weekend has come to a close and Homecoming week is in full swing, Bronco pride is at its highest. On a campus where students pride themselves on bleeding brown and gold, many wonder where the concept of school spirit comes from. The question brings [...]
By Alyssa Herter Arts Editor Parking on campus freaks me out. Not because I’m worried about finding a spot on time for class, though that happens, but because I daily fear for my life, or at least the well-being of my poor little Oldsmobile. It’s that point in the season when rainy days drive more [...]

Two football seasons ago, I accompanied our football team to the University of Nebraska. Although our team played well, the Broncos lost. But the game was memorable. The crowd was large and clearly pulling for the home team, the Cornhuskers. However, the fans, including students, stood out because they were polite and respectful of the Broncos. It was eerie. The [...]
Sports and music are two of the driving forces in my life and I definitely need one or the other when I drive my car. Although, I think I have found the best and worst radio stations in the area and if you’re looking for some good ones, I have a few suggestions. My favorite [...]
Wednesday marked eight years of a war that truly ushered in terrorism as a modern warfare tactic. The current mood of American society is hard to judge but it seems anything but fully supportive or happy. In fact, America’s reaction seems to be a mixed bag. Some have held vigils in opposition, like the local [...]
I cannot understand any type of joke… I am a little slow when it comes to humor. But there is one joke I could not live without. It is not to offend anyone, and it is only funny because I laughed for probably half an hour over this simple joke but here goes… So there’s [...]
Northern Illinois 38 Western Michigan 3 Final The Broncos drop to 2-3 on the season and 1-1 in the Mid-American Conference. The Huskies improve to 3-2 and 1-0 in the Mid-American Conference. The Broncos now head to Toledo, Ohio and will play the University of Toledo at the Glass Bowl next Saturday. Notes: This is [...]
(Note: this post was originally published on Oct. 2; this is a revised version published on Oct. 3) Last week, my friend Casey asked me if I played “the game.” “The game?” I replied. She nodded. After a few minutes I realized what she was talking about. The game. The flirtation game. The text messaging [...]

“Dunn on the Run” will be a blog that is featured on the WesternHerald.com every other Tuesday throughout the semester. I started in grade school and continued through high school as a track and cross [...]
The best time of year to be a northerner

Blustery days, cozy cardigans, warm vanilla lattes, and the Shins.
These are only the highlights of my lengthy “why autumn is my favorite season” mental list. Don’t get me wrong, I love the sunshine and sundresses of summer, but after a couple months of heat, I’m ready for the warmth generated by the cold, you trackin’?
Live Football Blog: WMU 48 Miami 12 End of Third. More after the game. By Mark Rudi Sports Editor The Broncos have come out strong in the first half and Miami still has not scored a point yet this season. On the first play from scrimmage, Miami running back Thomas Merriweather fumbled at the 24-yard [...]
This Saturday, yes this Saturday, is the long awaited first home game for the Western Michigan University football game, but if you plan on going to the game, you need to read this blog entry first. Back in 2007, one of my friends, who attends Michigan State, came down for the WMU vs. Central Michigan [...]
If you walked past the Bernhard Center or the flagpoles on Western Michigan University’s campus this afternoon you may have seen posters of President Barack Obama sporting an interesting new look; a Hitler’s mustache. For some, particularly a few black students, the posters were alarming and troubling, judging by the looks on the faces of [...]

What a crazy final few minutes of play. It looked like as if WMU was done with about five minutes left in the fourth quarter, but Austin Pritchard blocked Nick Freeland’s field goal attempt and the Broncos took over. Western Michigan marched all the way down the field, but with a lot of help with Indiana’s multiple penalties. IU had four penatlies for 51 yards on WMU’s potential scoring drive in the fourth and the Broncos all the way down to the 11-yard line, but Aaron Winchester fumbled on the 8 yard line and the Hoosiers recoverd.
