The “Enchanting Princess of Song” and international Irish phenomenon, Celtic Woman, will perform at Miller Auditorium Saturday, Nov. 7 at 8 p.m.
The Irish singing group is currently on their new “Isle of Hope” national tour.
The group consists of Irish singing sensations, Chloe Agnew, Lisa Kelly, Lynne Hilary, Alex Sharpe, and violin aficionado, Mairead Nesbitt, who traveled from Ireland to the United States four years ago to inspire this country with songs of hope and love.
This current tour features cover songs such as Sting’s “Fields of Gold,” and “Have I told you lately that I love you,” originally by Rod Stewart.
Musical Director David Downes, composed brand new music for the ensemble as well.
They will be performing a blend of covers and classics such as “You Raise me Up,” “The Sky and the Dawn and the Sun,” “Danny Boy,” “Spanish Lady” and many others.
“I might check them out,” said Matt Naughton, a senior at Western Michigan University.
“They sound like they might be different. It seems like they put on a good show.”
In the time that Celtic woman has been in America, the group has sold over four million CDs and DVDs, and has already had seven American tours performing for over 800,000 people.
The international singing group has had quite the amount of television exposure.
They also have a Celtic Woman PBS special that has aired on 342 PBS stations throughout the country.
Along with their PBS special, they have performed on four national television shows including “Live with Regis and Kelly,” Martha Stewart’s show, the CBS “Early Show,” Brian Boitano’s “Skate for the Heart,” and they are also set to appear on “The Bonnie Hunt Show” Dec. 5.
Celtic woman have held the number one spot as the Top World Music Artist in Billboard Magazine with albums entitled “Celtic Woman,” “A Christmas Celebration” and “A New Journey,” for 90 consecutive weeks, adding to their long list of incredible accomplishments since moving to the U.S.
Celtic Woman’s official Web site states,
“Celtic Woman’s following in the United States – where they have performed in the White House to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, is now being rivaled by the group’s popularity in rest of the world.
Tours in Japan, Germany, South Africa and Canada have all been hugely successful. The numbers keep getting higher and the Celtic Woman name keeps getting bigger.
Still, despite the many recent triumphs for this uniquely Irish success story, the best is definitely yet to come.”
