Sean Nicholl, current chief of operations for the Western Student Association, and Collin Mays, political affairs chair, announced their intentions to run for WSA president and vice president, in that order, today at the WSA meeting.

Students can vote online at westernstudentassociation.org starting March 19. The polls close on March 23.

“I feel like that’s something that we’ve been lacking in the past is that kind of experience on cabinet,” Nicholl said. “That’s why I really tapped into our current cabinet so we would have a smoother transition next year and have a lot of talent already with us.”

Nicholl has already chosen his Chief of Operations, Chris Rettich, and his Sustainability Chair, Meghan Walsh, to strengthen his presidential slate.

“It’s finding that perfect mix,” Nicholl said.

Even though they have members from past presidential cabinets, Mays said they’re still welcoming new ideas.

“I believe there are new ways for WSA,” Mays said.

The presidential hopefuls are using a Twitter account, @WSANewWays, to communicate with students.

Their opponents, Matt Vargo and Nikki Ledbury have opted to use the Twitter hashtag #WSADreamTeam.
