Student Entertainment Team prepares for exciting year
By Laura Citino
Have you ever wondered who plans all the fun events on Western Michigan University’s campus? If the event took place in the Bernhard Center, chances are it was because of the Bernhard Student Entertainment Team.
The Bernhard Student Entertainment Team, or SET, is a Registered Student Organization (RSO) that plans events on the Bernhard Center’s Center Stage and in its ballrooms.
Past events have included a break-dancing battle, a comedy game show, and performances by local improvisational comedy group Crawlspace Eviction. Any student at WMU can join SET.
According to SET president Jaime Valente, there is room for people interested in marketing, advertising, and visual and audio production. “We have a really diverse group of people,” Valente said. “There’s something for everyone.”
Already planned for the fall is a concert featuring Latin music group Orquesta Sensacional on September 18 on the Center Stage.
A major change in SET this year has been changing their name from the Student Entertainment Team to the Bernhard Student Entertainment Team. This was done to identify the RSO from other student event groups such as the Campus Activities Board, as SET events take place exclusively in the Bernhard Center.
Another goal of the group this year is branch out. “We want to go bigger this year,” Valente said. “We want to become well-known.”
SET will conduct meetings on Wednesdays this upcoming fall semester. Interested students can also go to the SET Office in Room L-12 on the Bernhard Center for more information.
