Romantic movies for a cozy Valentine’s Day

Narrowing down a list of the most romantic movies was a relentless task, but I think I’ve managed to capture the essence of romance in the movies that not only I, but an array of students and friends came up with.
The movie that was picked at an overwhelming rate was “The Notebook”. Of course that is the typical turn to lovey dovey “chick flick” movie choice. A story of a girl and boy’s first love gone right and wrong and finally right forever. With the cliché “romantic comedy” ending, boy and girl together, it is full of heartache, love and lust. Nevertheless, definitely at the top of the romantic movie food chain.
“Twilight”, the newest craze in books turned movies is definitely a love story. With a vampire who can’t live without his human love interest, the movie captures what it truly feels like to be “unconditionally and irrevocably in love” with a person.
“Twilight is one of the best chick flicks of all time, everyone wants a guy like Edward and Jacob,” said Lauren Cappo, a junior at Western Michigan University.
We can’t forget about the classic oldies like “Grease”, “Dirty Dancing” and “Pretty Woman”. “Grease” displays what it feels like to be “hopelessly devoted” to someone who may or may not be the person you suspected. But with a happy ending its full of heartwarming classic moments that make this movie a top choice.
“Dirty Dancing” on the other hand is a story of secret relationships and unapproved love that ends in acceptance. “Pretty Woman” is atypical of what you would think for a romance. The hooker turned professional by one of her “clients” ending in love. But each of these movies epitomize romantic relationships, the rush of being secretive or made over helps make these movies jump to the top of the chart.
Gosh, then there’s “Titanic”, an unforgettable love story tangled in the midst of tragedy. Although it ended in death for half the couple, they were insanely in love with each other — a love that will never be over or surpassed. I would say this gets a spot on the most romantic movies list.
There’s always the Jane Austin romances like “Pride and Prejudice” too.
“I’m a sucker for Jane Austen,” said Annie Truesdell, a junior at WMU.
Some others classics that certainly can’t be left out are “Sleepless in Seattle” and “When Harry Met Sally”.
Six more off the top of my head are: “How to Lose a Guy in 10 days”, “Gone With the Wind, “You’ve Got Mail”, “The Wedding Planner” and “50 First Dates”.
The list could go on forever.
