Frayed is hosting a free spring break fashion show to promote their spring line this Friday, Feb. 19.
The event will include free food catered by Subway and free drinks.
The event begins at 7 p.m. and the fashion show portion of the evening will begin around 8 p.m.
“The show features 16 models, girls and guys wearing our new spring wear, like dresses and skirts for girls and board shorts for guys. All together we have 22 looks,” said Craig Davies, owner and manager of Frayed.
“We will be giving away prizes and wrist bands for the after party at Wild Bull starting at 9:30 p.m.”
Beyond fashion and food, there will be a live DJ pumping out jams all evening at Frayed.
“This is really more of an event than an fashion show,” Davies said.
Frayed is working in coordination with WOTV’s “Face of 4,” Jordan Carson, to promote and plan this event.
The “Face of 4” will be present at the show and shoot commercials and vignettes for later use.
“There will be coverage on WOTV’s Web site and Facebook along with Frayed’s Facebook, and the show will be marketed through WOTV and WOODTV 8, but there will not be live coverage of the actual show,” Davies said, “but the event will be promoted before with commercials as well as after on the WOTV’s Web site.”
This is Frayed’s first self-produced promotional event, but they’ve collaborated with other organizations in the past.
“We tag onto a lot of events, like helping with MODA, Merchandising Opportunities Design Association, a Registerd Student Organization at Western Michigan University, and coordinating with lots of events downtown like with the Kalamazoo Institute of Art and the Radisson,” Davies said.
“I think it’s great how involved Frayed is with the downtown community,” said Laura Karner, a WMU student. “They always try to gear things toward college life and it definitely attracts me to their store and clothing, also with the show being free it will get more people to come and get the word out.”
The event will offer a laid-back introduction for those who have never been to Frayed. It will also shine the spotlight on the new products.
“We choose to do this event free because we are really connected with college-aged kids, and we wanted to give people a chance to get out and have a good time without being intimidated by ticket prices,” Davies said.
“We want to give people the opportunity to see new spring fashion and really get excited about spring break and spring in general.”
