Western Michigan University’s Lee Honors College will be holding a Open Mic Night on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
Honors students will be given seven minutes to perform their acts, which may range from performing a song to comedy performances.
The Honors Student Association Programming Committee, which planned the event, is encouraging any interested honors students to sign up in the LHC lounge, or in the Ackley/Shilling main lobby. Although honors students who attend the event will be allowed to take the stage, the programming committee is asking that students sign up before the event if possible.
While all sorts of different acts are welcomed, the programming committee is asking students to keep their material “PG-13.”
Rebecca Monterusso, a freshman majoring in biomedical studies, in a member of the HSA Programming Committee and has helped plan the event.
“Just come and play the piano—or any instrument—or read poetry,” Monterusso said.
Coffee, hot chocolate, and snacks will be provided to attendees. The furniture in the Honors College will be rearranged and the fireplace will be going.
Monterusso said Open Mic Night would have a “very relaxed environment.”
“It’s just a relaxed way to meet new people in the Honors College,” Monterusso said.
Open Mic Night is not the only event the HSA Programming Committee is planning.
The group is also working on holding a yoga session before final exams. There are also talks of holding a film festival next semester.
Monterusso said that anyone interested in helping plan events for the Lee Honors College should consider joining the programming committee.
“Not a lot of people can go to some performances that their friends have at Dalton,” Monterusso said. “This way, you can just listen to them, eat, and have fun.”
