Papa Pete’s will host two nights of performances by Kalamazoo bluegrass group Greensky Bluegrass on Friday, Feb. 19 and Saturday, Feb. 20.
Winner of the 2006 Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Contest, Greensky Bluegrass plays over 170 shows a year and has performed with musicians such as Tony Rice, Peter Rowan, Sam Bush, Yonder Mountain String Band, and Railroad Earth, according to the biography on the group’s official Web site.
Greensky Bluegrass also performed at the first Rothbury Festival in 2008, which was held in Rothbury, Mich. The band recently released their fourth album, titled “Five Interstates.”
“Greensky Bluegrass hits timeless targets with deadly accuracy while simultaneously veering off the tired and true highway,” music Web site Jambase.com said of the group.
“We really just try to make music as a group that sounds and feels right to us,” Greensky Bluegrass mandolin player Paul Hoffman said in a quote in the band’s online biography.
Both shows start at 9 p.m.
