Bryan Adams will kick off the summer in Kalamazoo with a concert at the State Theatre on Tuesday.
The Canadian rocker will be in town for his solo acoustic tour. This stop is part of a series of special visits scheduled in between his Europe and United States stadium tours, featuring a more intimate atmosphere.
Adams, a huge popular music presence in the ’80s and ’90s, has been topping charts and packing arenas throughout his 30-plus years in the music business.
His many hits include “Cuts Like a Knife,” “(Everything I Do) I Do It For You” and “Run to You.” His most notable single to-date is “Summer of ’69,” the classic rock anthem from his 1984 album “Reckless.”
This current tour and select acoustic shows, like Tuesday’s at the State, are driven by Adams’ latest album “11,” released in March 2008. The album is Adams’ 11th and features 11 acoustic songs, hence the appropriate title.
All the tracks were recorded in hotel rooms and backstage areas over the past two years. Although it received lukewarm reviews from critics, “11” was Adams’ first album to reach number-one on the Canadian Albums Chart since “Waking Up The Neighborhood” in 1991.
The show will feature only Adams, 48, and a collection of acoustic guitars on stage. He will perform the classics, but with an acoustic spin.
“I think for a lot of people that haven’t heard me do [an acoustic show] before, it will be intriguing because to play a song like ‘Cuts Like a Knife’ on acoustic guitar is quite a different thing than hearing it with a full band,” Adams said at a press conference in 2008.
But according to a recent LiveDaily.com interview, Adams won’t be the only one singing. One lucky fan could be pulled up on stage to join him.
“Every night I bring somebody up on stage from the audience,” Adams said. “I have a theory that everyone can sing, and I prove it night after night… You can just come up and go for it.”
Bryan Adams will perform at the Kalamazoo State Theatre, located at 406 South Burdick St., 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Tickets are still on sale, and seating is reserved. Regular seating is $40 and Gold Circle seating (which includes a preffered seat location, a CD and a pre-show reception with Bryan Adams) is $125.
