‘Pajama Game’ comes to Miller Auditorium for Sunday matinee

Just how far would you go for a seven and a half cent raise?

For the workers of the Sleeptite Pajama Factory, seven and a half cents is everything they’re fighting for.

The Broadway musical “The Pajama Game” comes to Western Michigan University’s Miller Auditorium this Sunday, March 29th for a 3 p.m. matinee.

“The Pajama Game” is a production that shows the true value of a dollar.

The Tony Award-winning musical comedy has toured the nation since its 2006 revival and continues to keep America laughing.

“It’s about fighting for what you believe in and working together,” said Bethany Gauthier, Miller Auditorium Assistant Direction of Marketing.

In a struggle between the labor union and the management, the workers of the pajama factory are determined to gain their precious raise of seven and a half cents.

But the head of the workers union and the shop superintendent may have a little heat of their own on the horizon.

Based on the novel “7 ½ Cents” by Richard Bissell, the musical is a perfect dose of humor for our troubled economic times.

“The story is still relevant today,” Gauthier said.

Some of the show’s popular musical numbers include: “Hey There,” “Steam Heat” and “Hernando’s Hideaway.”

“It’s a lot of comedy in addition to song and dance. The musical has fun choreography and cool period customs,” Gauthier said.

The timeless, lively musical was written by George Abbott and Richard Pike Bissell, with lyrics and music composed by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross.

Tickets can be purchased through the Epic Center Box Office, the Miller Auditorium Ticket Office or online at www.millerauditorium.com.

Ticket prices range from $25 to $52, but WMU students with valid ID will receive 50 percent off. Discounts for groups are also available.
