Students who find themselves cramming during finals may also find that depriving themselves of sleep may cause more harm than they think.

Lisa Marshall, a physician at Sindecuse Health Center, said sleep is very important for learning and memory. Marshall said that the general requirement for appropriate sleep time is eight hours, but she said that some people need less.

Finals week has arrived for universities across the country - and with that comes the age-old tradition of cramming months worth of classwork into one night of studying with the aid of high-caffeine beverages. But is it possible that your fourth triple-espresso actually has a negative effect on your studying?

"I'm so busy with my major, I have to have my cup of coffee before I sit down to study at night," said Lisa Della Pia, 19, a freshman majoring in music.

Introduced in fall of 2007, the Western Edge is a strategic plan for promoting student success and keeping the quality of education offered by WMU affordable.

When I was a senior in high school filling out my bracket for the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament, I was excited to see Western Michigan University as a No. 11 seed playing against the University of Vanderbilt. Before, I had heard some things about the Bronco athletic teams, but growing up outside of Lansing and coming here for the following fall semester, I didn't have high expectations for the Brown and Gold to have much success in any sport.
