Bronco volleyball to hold Alumni match

The Western Michigan University volleyball program will be hosting its Alumni match on Saturday, Aug. 21, at 7:00 p.m. at University Arena.

This is the first glimpse at the 2010 Bronco volleyball team, which includes their nationally-ranked recruiting class of outside hitters Gillian Asque, Ali Gossen and Taylor Richard, middle blocker Emily Harris, libero Lena Oliver and setter Terin Norris.

Hamilton and Imel tie for 10th in team championships

Three days of competition at the Inaugural Hooters Women’s Collegiate Team Championships has led to Britney Hamilton and Kaylee Imel finishing in a four-way tie for 10th place.  The two combined finish with a 1-over par score of 289.

The Western Michigan University football team received two first-place votes and was picked to finish third in the West Division, according to the Mid-American Conference Preseason Media Poll.

WMU track hits another milestone

Western Michigan University’s Iris Campbell, Irene Cooper and Ashley Hunault were named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association 2010 Division I All-Academic Track & Field Team. Their performances on the track and in the classroom led to the nominations.

WMU golfers compete at Annual Michigan tournament

Western Michigan University has two out of the top three golfers at the 94th Annual Michigan Women’s Amateur Tournament at the St. Clair River Country Club.

Britney Hamilton paced the field with a 4-under par round of 68. Teammate Stephanie Koske is tied for third after scoring 74 in the first round.

WMU gymnastics earns honors in the classroom

Sporting a 3.6323 grade point average, Western Michigan University placed fourth in the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women 2010 Academic Team Rankings.Out of a total of 15 members, four Broncos recorded a 4.0 and 11 others had GPA’s of 3.5 or better and each earned individual honors.In order to earn an individual honor, a student-athlete must receive at least a 3.50 GPA.

Lawson agrees to play in Germany

Former Western Michigan University men’s basketball center Donald Lawson has signed a contract to play in Germany next season for Chemnitz.

Chemnitz also signed former Bronco Stane Bufford last season. Bufford has experienced some success, averaging 14.6 points, 3.6 rebounds. 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals. He was also named to the Bundesliga Pro A All-Defensive Team.
