Applications available for annual Spring Into the Streets

On Saturday, April 2, Western Michigan University will begin its annual Spring Into the Streets service initiative. Over 300 volunteers will sweep the Kalamazoo community in efforts to work alongside community agencies to assist in various tasks such as neighborhood clean-up, organizing and painting.

WMU to host 2011 East Central Writing Centers Association Conference

The conference runs from Thursday, March 3, to Saturday, March 5, in Schneider Hall, Ellsworth Hall, and the Bernhard Center, according to the session map.

Hockey splits weekend series against Notre Dame; finishes fourth in the CCHA

The 17th-ranked Western Michigan University hockey team split its weekend series with the 8th-ranked University of Notre Dame.

With the split, the Broncos secure fourth place in the CCHA, giving them a first-round bye in the CCHA playoffs, as well as the right to host Ferris State University in a second-round game.

Men’s tennis drops a pair of matches over the weekend

Friday evening, the Broncos fell to No. 67 Northwestern University, 4-3, and were defeated by No. 64 DePaul University, 5-2, Saturday afternoon.

Softball drops two more games at USF Invite

The Western Michigan University softball team came up short again on Day Two of the University of South Florida Invitational on Saturday.

The Broncos fell, 2-1, to Central Connecticut State University for their first game of the day at 8:30 a.m. Two hours later, the Broncos fell again, 12-4, to the University of Alabama.

Men’s tennis picks up loss on the road

In a match lasting well over three hours, the Broncos fell to the Wildcats, 4-3, despite taking an early lead by winning the doubles point.

Broncos avenge early season loss; beat Toledo 68-56

There’s not much to do in Ishpeming, Mich., but then again – there’s not much to do anywhere in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The only exciting thing that comes to mind is exploring the great outdoors and drinking good local beer. That local beer happens to come from a 10-barrel all-grain brewing system at a place called Jasper Ridge Brewery, where brewer Grant Lyke has been turning out beers since the doors opened in 1996.
