The Western Michigan University golf team captured a title at the Cardinal Classic hosted by Ball State University on Tuesday, Sept. 28.The Brown and Gold captured the title in record-setting fashion after finishing the tournament in 36 holes, the second lowest team score in WMU history.
“They’re playing well.Thats what we need” said head coach Cindy Trout.

University football program will host its 87th annual homecoming game this Saturday afternoon against the University of Idaho Vandals.
Kick off will be at 2 p.m. at Waldo Stadium in Kalamazoo. The Broncos (1-2, 0-1 MAC) are coming off of their idle week, so they’ve had two weeks to prepare for a solid Idaho (2-2) team.

Students eating in any Western Michigan University dining hall lately are likely to see advertisements regarding the new dining hall, Bistro3.
On Friday, Oct. 1, Bistro3, formerly known as Davis Dining Hall, will celebrate its opening with an open house.
Bistro3 opened in August and offers fresh and healthy food choices at five menu stations where students can view their food as it is prepared.

Western Michigan University’s College of Aviation will host their second fly-in pancake breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 2.
The College of Aviation hosted their first fly-in pancake breakfast in April for the college’s 10-year anniversary.
This event is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend. It will take place 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the world famous Chris Cakes catering company will be on hand flipping their pancakes.

Western Michigan University’s College of Aviation received a record number of scholarships awarded to College of Aviation students for the 2010-11 academic year from three Michigan organizations over the summer.
Honorariums for continuing aviation education were additionally issued to select Certified Flight Instructors and graduates of the college.

Western Michigan University’s homecoming week has begun and teams are competing and giving their all to win the Brown and Gold Spirit Cup.
Throughout the week, teams of academic departments, groups of students and Registered Student Organizations will be competing for the Spirit Cup as a part of a long-running homecoming tradition.

Flu season is approaching, which may cause extra worry on campus after last year’s H1N1 scare.
Fortunately, Western Michigan University’s Sindecuse Health Center is offering a three-in-one vaccine that will take care of all flu worries.
“The H1N1 virus has been incorporated into the seasonal flu vaccine so you get three for the price of one this year,” said Kristine Hanson, director of nursing at Sindecuse.

At the weekly Western Student Association meeting, guest speaker Brynne Belanger addresses the re-accreditation of Western Michigan University.
Belanger acted as proxy on behalf of Vice Provost for Institutional Effectiveness Professor Eileen Evans.
Belanger discussed WMU’s upcoming re-accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission.

If you’re driving along I-94 West past Kalamazoo, you’ll see a sign for a grape-centered town called Lawton, Mich. – population, 1,859.
Take a thirsty detour over to one of the best-hidden breweries in Southwest Michigan – The Old Hat Brewery and Grill. The sunlit brewpub sits within a row of colorful buildings right next to the Welch’s plant. Western Michigan University’s School of Music will present a scholarship benefit concert featuring all of its student and faculty ensembles 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3, in Miller Auditorium.
The event will feature over 600 student and faculty musicians and is open to the public.

Kalamazoo band Coma Nova won the battle to open for Lighting Bolt at 89.1 WIDR-FM’s final round of Fight for the Tuna on Monday, Sept. 27.
The band will now be playing at the Barking Tuna Festival on Saturday, Oct. 9.
The four-piece metal punk band from Kalamazoo consists of guitar and vocalist Eli Kroes, singer Elaine Martin, drummer Matt Motzell and bassist Jake Marcus.

A national touring exhibit examining race as a social construct, “RACE: Are We So Different?” will be visiting Kalamazoo from Saturday, Oct. 2 through Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011 at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum, located at 230 North Rose St.
The tour started in 2007, and was created by the Science Museum of Minnesota and the American Anthropological Association, according to the exhibit’s official website.

Alan H. Jacobs, professor emeritus of anthropology at Western Michigan University and one of the world’s foremost experts on the semi-nomadic Maasai people of Africa, died Sept. 13. He was 80.
Professor emeritus of sociology at Western Michigan University, Milton J. Brawer died, died Sept. 8 in Kalamazoo. He was 84.
